It's hard to believe that the school year is almost over.  We want you to be aware of a few things that are coming up. 

  • Career Day is tomorrow
  • Pictures and library books are due Friday

  • Field Day is postponed (no date yet)

Math - Continue to review all math facts.  We are currently studying multiplying and dividing decimals.  We will soon study solid geometry and probability.

Science -We are finishing the solar system. There will be a test on Wednesday.

Social Studies - We are finishing the American Revolution.  There will be a test on Friday.  Use Chapter 8 in the book to help study.

Reading - All students have been reading biographies of American Revolution heroes.

Writing - This quarter we will be working on persuasive writing.

Reindeer Shop

   The Reindeer Shop will be opened from 7:20 to 7:50 each morning this week.  Your child may purchase inexpensive gifts for members of your family.  You received a flyer on this last week in your Tuesday folder. 

Benchmark Test in Math and Language Arts

This Wednesday we will be taking a Benchmark test in Math.  On Thursday we will take the Benchmark test in Language Arts.  Please be sure and get plenty of sleep this week. 

Simple Machine Science Quiz this Thursday

Please be sure and study the vocabulary words in your Science folders and your Science book chapters on Simple Machines.  Simple Machine posters are due this Wednesday. 

Science Projects on Simple Machines

Each student is responsible for a presentation/project/demonstration on a Simple Machine.  This should be a hand-made simple machine.  There are ideas in the Science book, Library books, classroom readers, etc.  These do not have to be elaborate.  There should be at least one paragraph detailing  the type of simple machine and how it works.

It's the week before Thanksgiving, and we are all looking forward to the holiday.  Below is some important information, as well as a quick look at what we will be studying this week.

MATH:

We are continuing our study of division.  We are dividing one digit into three digits.

Please continue to work on multiplication facts.  The day before the Thanksgiving Holiday, we will have a celebration  honoring those who have mastered their facts.

Language Arts:

Novel studies continue.  We are also studying folk tales, tall tales, and fables.  Please encourage your child to read daily over the Thanksgiving Break.

We are writing responses to literature this 9 weeks.  Currently, we are working on book reviews to share with other classes.

Science:

Simple Machines is our new unit of study.  We are assigning an at home simple machine's project.  It will count for 10% of this 9 week's grade.  More information will follow. 

Social Studies:

Our study of European Explorers of North America continues.

Math

Please help your child learn his/her math facts.  We are working on doulble digit multiplication and long division.  Those children who do not know their math facts will have difficulty passing math.

Reading

Some children will continue novel studies this week.  Others will be reading tall tales and filling out visual organizers.

Spelling

Continue to practice words each week.

English

We continue to work on identifying types of sentences, parts of speech, and subject/predicate.

Science

Students are working on force, motion, gravity, and simple machines.

Social Studies

We will be completing our unit on Native Americans by having each student share his/her power point presentation.

  • This 9 weeks we will be working on response to literature.  Next week we will prepare book reports.
