SIMPSON MIDDLE SCHOOL SHUFFLE AND HEALTH FAIR!

Simpson Middle School will host a 2K (1.2 miles) and  5K (3.1 mile) run/walk along with a Health Fair, on Friday, March 27th, 4:30-6:30 PM. Come enjoy the fun and promote health and fitness for our kids!

The run will take place in the Northampton subdivision.  Kids and adults have a choice between 2 distances, which can be walked, jogged, or run with friends and family.  Medals will be awarded to the top 3 boys and girls in each grade level, and the top 3 men and women.  Elementary school kids are also welcome!

The health fair will be held inside at Simpson.  The Big Peach Running Co. has provided race numbers and coupons, along with goody bags in which kids can collect samples and freebies from the different exhibits.

Youth Services:

Please review the attached flyer with regards to an upcoming GA Summit on Underage Drinking.  The workshops and keynote speakers presenting at this workshop will assist; parents, PTA officers or members, treatment professionals, intervention personnel, faith based youth leaders, law enforcement personnel, community leaders, business owners and individuals who are concerned about the health, safety and well being of youth in their community.  If you are not able to attend both days I would encourage you to come for one day and empower yourself with the information you will receive.

The current trend should be alarming to anyone who cares about youth and about public safety.  Nearly one third of underage drinkers report they paid for the last alcohol they consumed, while 40 percent received free alcohol from an adult, and one in 16 from a parent or guardian.  Underage drinking is a complex problem, one that can only be adequately addressed through a sustained and collective effort to mobilize parents, schools, public safety and public health officials, citizen groups, elected officials, members of the media, businesses, and faith communities as well as youth into action.  Do not let this summit pass you by.  Register today.  underage drinking

BLACKWELL GOES GREEN!

On January 9, 2009, Blackwell implemented a PAPER recycling program that we are very excited about! This is our first attempt as a school to become more aware of our environment and become “greener”. Each student was provided a blue bag in which they can carry paper products from home to be collected and recycled. They are encouraged to bring in items as often as they would like. Each classroom has a box or bin for the paper to be placed into. The 5th grade “Green Peer Helpers” come by and pick it up from each classroom. They put the items in a central location in the school and then it is finally put into the green bin in the parking lot. The following is a list of acceptable paper materials: white paper, colored paper, newspaper, telephone books, catalogs/magazines, junk mail, white envelopes (even with windows), index cards. The following is NOT acceptable: construction paper, paper with crayon or glue on it, waxed paper, laminated paper, any type of cardboard, plastics, glass, aluminum. As we move forward, we will venture into recycling other items as well. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support of this very important program!!!

Join PTA!  Our goal is 100% membership this year.  If every adult in the household joins we can reach our goal.  Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Brothers, Sisters, Friends, Co-Workers or anyone else you can think of can join PTA.  Attached is a order form that can be printed and filled out and placed in the PTA mailbox along with cash or check made payable to "Blackwell PTA".  If a family of 2 joins PTA, receive your free Blackwell PTA calendar.
