Three down and three to go...testing days. The children have all been working so hard. I am very proud of them for putting forth the effort and using the strategies we have been working on throughout the school year.

There are many fun things coming up in the next few weeks. Please be sure to check on the school's website for the events and the dates.

Our school's volunteer lunch is also coming up soon. Thanks to all of you who have given your time to help out at Blackwell.

Happy Valentines Day

Even though it was Friday, the 13th, all was cheery and bright around Blackwell, last Friday.

Mostly everyone; staff and students were decked out in "red."

I hope you remember to sleep in on Monday morning, as there is no school for the kids. Teachers

will be in for Inservices.

Trivia night is coming up. It is sponsored by the "Rely for Life" team from Blackwell. Please

plan on attending. There will be refreshments and lots of good food as well as great prizes for the fun

trivia games. Get ready to sharpen up your memory.

In our classroom right now we are continuing to work on a wonderful reading fluency program. It

will help your child develop speed, fluency, and comprehension/strategies that will help them in all

academic areas as they get into the higher grades. Your support and help is needed to time your child

everyday and graph the results. You will be amazed at how far they have come up to this point!

Thanks for the delicious Valentine candy and other goodies. It was very sweet of you.

Looking ahead, please note that March 3rd is an "Early Release" day. Dismissal is at 12:10.

The Week After

Conferences are almost over. It will be nice to go back to our regular schedules. Thanks to all the

parents who came to conferences and IEP meetings this week. I appreciate your support and help with

your  children.  Together we can certainly make a difference!

PTA night is next Tuesday night. I will look forward to seeing you there. Fourth Grade chorus will

be performing.

Please continue to sign and look into your childrens' agendas for their work and notes from their

teachers and myself.

NIne days and Counting

Well it's almost time for another break. I want to tell you how much I appreciated your working with your children over Thanksgiving on the small packets of math, reading, and language arts worksheets that I sent home. It did make a difference in their remembering the skills they had learned since the beginning of the school year.

With nine days left there is still plenty to do. They will be taking some online tests over the next week. Don't forget the school holiday gift shop here at Blackwell. It's a great way for them to buy something special for family and friends.

Your children never cease to amaze me with their motivation and eagerness to learn. Thanks for all your support with them.

It's hard to believe that it's almost Thanksgiving time! Four more days to go.          Please remember that:

Blackwell’s Scholastic Book Fair is going on now through this Thursday November 20th. If you haven’t been able to come by, there is still time during the Thanksgiving Feasts on Wednesday and Thursday. Please be sure to check with your child’s teacher or go to the Blackwell website for the day/time for each class.

Volunteers are STILL needed for this Book Fair, and will receive a wonderful bonus of 10% off any book(s) for lending a helping hand. Please contact Chelle Blancato at fcblancato@mindspring.com

The Year is Going Fast!!!!!

It's hard to believe that it's almost November! Please continue to work with your child on his/her multiplication tables, addition and subtraction facts, and sight words.

It's also important that you sign their agenda everyday. Not doing this, often results in their losing points that would enable them to participate in their grade levels' "Fun Friday."

I am thrilled by the progress that I am seeing with each student! Let's continue to let them know that we are going to be working together to continue this wonderful progress!

For those of you whose children access the Internet, there is a website that I found for practicing multiplication skills. It times the children and makes learning a fun, and yet challenging

experience.

Welcome to School Year 2008

Hi.....Welcome to Blackwell's 2008-09 school year. Thank you to all who came by to see me again and those who met me for the first time at Open House last week. I am truly enjoying working with all of your children, and I am looking forward to working with all of you as well.  Please remember to sign your child's agenda everyday. Some of them have an extra sheet to sign as well for extra study/practice at home with basic math facts and/or sight words. Your signature is very important as it tells your child that you and I are going to work together to help them achieve this year.

No accomplishment is too small. I firmly believe that it is important to reinforce learned skills daily. For those children who have sight words to work on, I have attached a ring of words to their agendas to remind them to practice when they get home, and also to keep the words from getting lost. Please take the time to go over these words with them. It will be worth the few minutes in the end.

Those children who have pages in a "chapter" book to read for homework also need to write a short summary of three to four sentences about what they have read. They should be writing in their own words

Every grade level has its own behavior management sheet. Please be sure to ask for it and sign it along with the agenda everyday.

Please don't hesitate to call me at (678) 494-7600 to leave a message. I will do my best to call you back as soon as possible.

       Thanks :-)
