Grade 3 News from the Music Room

 

Your child will be performing for the PTA on Thursday, February 2 for the 6:30 p.m. for the evening PTA meeting.  Your child needs to arrive in the Media Center by 6:15 p.m.

Your child will need to wear a white shirt, black (very dark) pants, and dark shoes for our performance.

Your child can practice the songs for the program at home by visiting www.musick8kids.com.  Choose the songs from the play list and either listen along or download your own personal copy for a small fee. 

 

Our theme this year is SCIENCE!

The Water Cycle

Evaporation.  Condensation.  Precipitation.  Accumulation.  That’s the water cycle.  Water from rivers, oceans, and lakes turns to vapor.  Clouds form high in the sky.  The RAIN comes down.  Water goes back to where it began.  ‘Round and ‘round it goes.  That’s the water cycle.

Viva Vernal Equinox

One revolution.  Earth travels once a year around the sun.  Many rotations.  Patterns of light are changing from the sun.  Seasons are born four times a year.  Spring, summer, fall, winter, too.  Now it’s the spring that we begin.  Springtime makes everything new! 

Viva!  Viva!  Viva vernal equinox!   Viva!  Viva!  Viva vernal equinox!

At the equator, two times a year the sun appears to us.  Daytime and nighttime seem to be almost the same length to us.  This equinox, two times a year, happens in spring and in fall.

But it’s the spring now we begin, singing with our vernal call!

Where No One Has Gone Before

Flying by the rings of Saturn.  Analyze the soil on Mars.  See the Great Red Spot of Jupiter.  How far, how far to reach the stars?  Wouldn’t it be grand if we could fly out there?  See the galaxy first hand?  Until then, we will send inter-stellar spacecraft.  Send us pictures.  Send us data.  Help us understand.  Exploring space for the betterment of all.  Where no one has gone before, they go for us.

Science can help us understand when we study things first hand.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

My Dreydl

Frosty the Snowman

Frosty the snowman, was a jolly, happy soul.  With a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal.  Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say.  He was made of snow, but the children know how he came to life one day. There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found; for when they placed it on his head, he began to dance around.  Oh Frosty the snowman was alive as he could be, and the children say he could laugh and play just the same as you and me.

Frosty the snowman knew the sun was hot that day, so he said let’s run and we’ll have some fun now before I melt away.  Down to the village with a broomstick in his hand running here and there all around the square saying, “Catch me if you can.”  He led them down the streets of town right to the traffic cop.  And he only paused a moment when he heard him holler stop.  For Frosty the snowman had to hurry on his way, but he waved good-bye saying, “Don’t you cry, I’ll be back again some day.”

Jingle-Bell Rock

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock.  Jingle bell swing and jingle bells ring.  Snowin’ and blowin’ up bushels of fun.  Now the jingle hop has begun.  Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock.  Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time.  Dancin’ and prancin’ in Jingle Bell Square, in the frosty air.  What a bright time, it’s a right time to rock the night away.   Jingle bell time is a swell time to go glidin’ in a one-horse sleigh.  Giddyap, jingle horse pick up your feet.  Jingle around the clock.  Mix and mingle in a jinglin’ beat.  That’s the jingle bell, that’s the jingle bell, that’s the jingle bell rock.

Chorus December 2011 Program Words

Our performances are on December 1 at 6:30 p.m. and on December 21 (field trip to Atherton Place and the NCBA luncheon).  Remember to wear your Chorus outfit (Chorus shirt, black pants, and dark shoes).

Winter in America 

v. 1 - I like the snow.  I like it deep.  So deep, it comes up to my nose.  Achoo!  I go outside to check it out. Before long, I can’t feel my toes.  (Narrator:  Anyone seen my toes?)  But that’s okay.  I’m here to stay.  I’ll sled down a hillside or two.  Whoa!  I get into a snowball fight, and come home before I turn blue. (all vocal chattering)

Refrain – Winter in America.  Cold up North.  Everything’s frozen!  Winter in America.  Warm down South.  You might go swimming!  Winter in America.  All depends on where you’re living.

v. 2 - I like the beach!  I like to swim!  I like getting tan on my head.  Ahhh!  Sometimes I might lay out too long, (Narrator:  Uh oh!) and look like a lobster instead. (Narrator: Don’t touch me!)  I ride my bike.  Play volleyball.  I jump on the trampoline, too.  Whee!  I fly my kite.  It’s outta sight!  The fun outdoor things I can do!  Sing the refrain.

v. 3 – And so you see the differences.  Diverse winters in the same land.  (Narrator: How do they do it?)  For some it snows.  For some it rains.  For some it will be rather bland.  (Narrator: Yay –  said lethargically).  With snow or sun, by sled or sail, or just hanging out in the sun.  (Narrator:  La, la, la! - said melodically) The good thing is, in either place, our winter can be lots of fun!  (all cheer) Sing the refrain.

Polar Puppy

Polar puppy, living at the North Pole.  He’s chilly, He’s silly.  He’s living at the North Pole.  Santa’s best friend, living at the North Pole.  He’s nicey.  He’s icy.  He’s living at the North Pole.

What’s a puppy doing there?  It’s really knida cold.   He’s hanging out with reindeer there.   He’s really kinda bold.  Oh___  Oh ___ Oh___  Oh ___

Talent Show News - Audition information

Mark your calendars now and plan to attend! 

Selected students of Grade 3, 4, and 5 will be performing in a Talent Show for the PTA on Thursday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m.  Our performance will be videotaped for the school to view on Friday, March 9.  Please show your support and plan to attend this important performance with your child. 

Students will be auditioning in January 24.  Please print and complete the following permission slip and return it to Mrs. Haire no later than January 18.

 

Dear Blackwell family,

 

Your child has expressed an interest in performing in the Talent Show on Thursday, March 8!  If you would like your child to participate, carefully read and follow the talent show details in this announcement.

 

1.  Return your signed Talent Show Audition Permission Slip (attached) to Mrs. Haire by Wednesday, January 18.  Audition forms will not be accepted after the due date. 

 

2.  Acts must be no longer than 3 minutes.

 

3.  If you are using recorded music for your act, turn in a CD or send an MP3 version of your music to Mrs. Donn no later than Friday, January 20.   Your child will get the CD back the next day.

 

4.  Auditions will be held in the cafeteria beginning at 2:30 on Tuesday, January 24.  Groups may be picked up beginning at 3:00 and soloists beginning at 3:30.  Parents will pick up their child by entering the Canton Road doors and come to the cafeteria.  Please remember to bring a photo ID inside with you to show to the teacher who is in charge of dismissing students.  Students not picked up by 3:45 will go to ASP.

 

5.  All students who will be invited to participate in the Talent Show will receive their official Talent Show Permission Slip on Friday, January 27.

 

6.  Keep in mind that your attendance is mandatory on these dates in order to prepare for the show.

Tuesday, January 24 – 2:30 to 3:45 – Auditions

            Tuesday, February 14 – 2:30 to 3:45 – Rehearsal

            Tuesday, February 21 – 2:30 to 3:45 – Rehearsal

            Tuesday, February 28 – 2:30 to 3:45 – Rehearsal

            Tuesday, March 6– 2:30 to 3:45 – Dress Rehearsal – Wear your costume

            Thursday, March 8 – PTA Performance 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. – arrive by 6:15 p.m.

April 12 is going to be an exciting evening for Grade 2 students!  We have been invited to sing at Barnes & Noble Book Store on Barrett Parkway during the PTA Book Fair! Please show your support and plan to attend this important performance with your child. 

Students will need to wear a white shirt, black pants, black socks, and black shoes. Please be aware that standing in a group while performing can make you get very warm. So for your shirt, please choose light fabrics or short-sleeved polo shirts. 

Students may practice with the songs at www.musick8kids.com.  This site will let you hear most of each song for free.  To hear the entire song, it can be downloaded like iTunes.  The songs are $.99 each. The words to the songs are coming soon.

This is going to be a great performance experience for all!
