Blackwell Bulldog Chorus

The Blackwell Bulldog Chorus is an auditioned group of students from Grades 4 & 5 who meet after school once a week to prepare music for performances at school and in the community.  Auditions will be held in late August, Chorus rehearsals start in late September and end in March.  Performances include videotaping Patriotic songs for the Blackwell Morning News, singing for the school and PTA in early December, singing at the Canton Road Business Association Luncheon in December, singing at the Atherton Place Senior Living Center in December, singing at Choral Festival in February, and singing for the school and PTA in March.

Students accepted into the Chorus must be willing to attend all rehearsals & concerts and be able to memorize all the music. They must have a great work ethic, have the recommendation of their classroom teacher, and be willing to cooperate with the Chorus team.

Grade 5 Chorus members will be able to audition for the GMEA Elementary Honors Chorus which is normally held in October as well as a very special December concert at the Cobb Energy Center featuring the group, "Banks & Shane".

How to Contact Mrs. Donn

Hi,

If you would like to contact Mrs. Donn, please send an e-mail to phyllis.donn@cobbk12.org.  This is definitely the fastest way since the e-mail account is checked several times each day.  You can also leave a voice mail using the school's number (678-494-7600), but I don't always get a chance to check for phone messages.  Please remember that we don't have phones in our classrooms.

Thanks!

The students of Grade 3 will be performing on Thursday, March 5! We will perform for the school in 2 assemblies in the morning (8:15 and 9:15) and then for the PTA in the evening (arrive by 6:15). The evening PTA meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Please show your support and plan to attend at least one performance with your child.

Students will need to wear a white shirt, black pants, black socks, and black shoes. Please be aware that standing in a group while performing can make you get very warm. So for your shirt, please choose light fabrics or short-sleeved polo shirts.

Recorder Information

August 2008

Welcome to the new school year!

For a fun way to learn to read and play music, we use soprano recorders in Grades 4 and 5. To follow good health policies, we ask that each child have their own recorder. To make it easy on parents, recorders may be purchased through the Blackwell PTA for $7.00. Optional cloth cases are available for $1.00. Students may purchase their recorder in the Music room any morning or at the PTA sales counter on Tuesday or Friday mornings. Checks should be made out to Blackwell PTA.

Students in Grades 4 & 5 need to bring their recorder, a pencil, and their music folder to every Music class. And, please remember to practice at home at least 3 times a week. Also, remember to use your left hand on the top of the recorder! This is very important!

You may want to practice our recorder music with the band by visiting www.MusicK8kids.com and typing in the name of the song in the search window. Follow your printed music and play along. It's fun!
