Late March News!

As March quickly passes, we are working hard to polish our learned skills.  You will see your child bring home some "practice" items over the next few weeks.  Please look over the pages to be aware of your child's strengths and difficult areas so we can support them.

March Madness!

March madness has arrived with a flurry of snow and the promise of 70 degrees by Saturday!  Our days are very full right now and extremely critical, especially with CRCT's coming in April.  We are trying to review as much as we can here at school, but we will need your help at home.  I will try to compose a list of items we should already be able to do so you can go over them as time permits.  The state website for CRCT review is excellent. Many of you have asked for extra work on tough items.  I have a problem with little paper to use for copying purposes.  I will do what I can.

Math Night is next Tuesday, March 10.  Please send in your form if you plan to attend.  Stevi B's is also that night, so you can do both if time permits.  It is free and should be lots of fun.

We are soon ending our third nine weeks!  We are finishing a study of healthy habits for our health, our body, and our teeth.  Soon our focus will be on plants and animals.

March will be a critical time getting ready for testing.  I will let you know more this week of how to help your child!

Happy March!

Fantastic February!

February has quickly come to our classroom!  The "Going Green" project is going well with our recycles!  We are becoming more mindful of paper use, too.  Continue to send in materials that we can place in our box.  PTA is Feb.3, 2009.  The Chorus will perform.  The students may share valentines during SOAR time next Friday, February 13th.  We continue to learn about heroes in our hisory, write our research papers from information gathered in the media center, work on telling time on the hour and half-hour, and perfect the ongoing skills in reading, writing, and math.  Thank you for working so faithfully with your child!  Please stay in touch.... you will be seeing some "work" to help prepare the students for the CRCT coming home in the next weeks.  The state website is a good practice source, too.  Keep reading for the Six Flags reading/ticket program!

Happy February!

January News!

Download Jan 09 newsletter

January has definitely brought about lots of things in our classroom!  We have "gone green" with recycling, studied about Teddy Roosevelt, are studying Harriet Tubman, are studying fractions, have been writing pieces that are non-fiction, and reading all sorts of books!  Conferences will be taking place the week of January 26-January 30.  We will be on an early -release schedule that week.

The students are working very hard to improve their reading and math skills.  With the approach of testing in the spring, listening and following directions are extremely important.  It will help at school if you will only tell directions to your child once with their explaining back to you what they are to do.  Thank you in advance for your help with that.

The newsletter is attached to this blog.  Please let me know if I can help in any way.

December Has Arrived!

Welcome to a very busy month!  These next three weeks will be filled with many activities at school and at home.  In class we will be finishing our work with graphs, addition and subtraction to 12, sound, nutrition, narrative writing, and a study of Lewis and Clark!  Please help your child stay rested and well as many assessments will also be included in these study units.

P.T.A. will be on Thursday night, December 4th.  Homework sheets will also be a good source of information for coming events.

Our Class will have its Winter Party on Thursday, December 18th at 1:00.  Our room reps to P.T.A. will be helping to coordinate the activities.

As you read with your child, please ask lots of questions about the book they are reading.  As we move into the last part of the school year, comprehension becomes more important than just reading the words!

Stay in touch as things come up...email me anytime!

Enjoy the season!

November News

November continues to be a busy month with the study of geometry, sound, personal narratives, American leaders, and continued reading.  Our focus has been on sequences, causes and effects, setting, transitions, and beginnings, middles, and ends.  All of this should help us in our own writing.

Please continue to check over your child's work.  This is the best way to see where your child is succeeding as well as areas that could use attention.

Math skills never "go away".  The application of those skills is the biggest goal rather that merely getting the correct answer on one type of problem.  Any word problems you can ask your child will be beneficial.

Thanks to all of the moms who come in to read with the class!  I know it takes time, but the few minutes on one-on-one time are more valuable than you may know!

Please keep in touch!
